Since you were originally looking at a 3.0, I assume that the extra power of a V8 is not the most important thing for you. So why not just order a brand new 3.0 with the options and the color that you want? It'll take a couple of months for them to build it, but unless you need the car right away, it's worth the wait.

There are two disadvantages of buying a demo over a brand new X5. 1) Demos don't get broken-in properly. When people test drive a car, they usually try to evaluate it's acceleration, and therefore gun it and rev to the redline. Nobody cares about the fact that you shouldn't go above 4500 rpm for the first 1000 miles or so. 2) There have been a number of changes for the 2002 model year (i.e. bi-xenons) as well as quality improvements.

Just something you might want to consider.
