I can state from experience that if you have two drinks in the drinkholder (the standard X5 one) and an 11 year old in the back seat puts her feet on the back of the armrest and applies pressure, that the rear drink container will explode on imact.

I personally plan to find a way to lock the sliding armrest permanently in the rear position. It is the one really bad design on the entire vehicle.
