I recently had the my 4.4 upgraded with Dinan software. I also purchased a K&N filter for my standard airbox. The change is from Mild (as mild as one would call the 4.4 Engine)to Wild. The change in torque is significant. I think the free flowing K&N's value has really been enhanced.

My X5 has taken on a whole new character. I was going to wait for a 4.6 but I could not pass on this 2001 4.4 I got 6 months ago. Fully loaded with everything minus the retactable load floor. Only paid 55K. I am considering a cold air intake, but I think that might let to much dirt in.

Total cost for software $499 LABOR INCLUDED(don't go a BMW dealer, go to a private shop authorized by Dinan, check their web site for names) The BMW dealer wanted 5 hours of labor.

K&N Filter was $38.00, goto their website, several discount online sources listed.
