"Racing professional Hans Joachim Stuck created it with the X5 LeMans to orbit 20.8 km long Nuerburgring Nordschleife in an impressing time of 7:49,92 minutes. On the straight line it even achieved a maximum speed of 311 km/h. Actually it was considered as almost impossible to break through the 8-minute mark on the Nuerburgring with a Sport Activity Vehicle. Lower round times are possible only with particularly prepared running route cars or reinrassigen Sportcoupés. To the comparison: The BMW 320i in the super Tourenwagen Cup orbited the Eifel course in 7:37 minutes and a modern BMW sports car like 400 HP strong Z8 needs for this distance under optimal conditions 8:16 minutes.

The X5 LeMans is an experimental vehicle, majority with the Serien-X5 corresponds. To the slight modifications belongs the Sechsliter-V12-Motor of the Le Mans winner auto of 1999, which carries out over 700 HP and a torque of 720 Nm with with 5000 rpm supplies. Thus the experimental vehicle accelerates 100 in 4.7 seconds on speed and achieves a top speed of 278 km/h. The chassis with large 20-inch wheels was lowered by 30 millimeters. Also outwardly BMW engineers modified the X5. The opening in the hood for the radiator exhaust air was increased, the bumper linings in front and in the back, the wheel arch and Schwellerverkleidungen, which became outside mirrors as well as the wheels more dynamically arranged."
