That's where they were located on all the other X5's I've seen, but this X5 (the newest one I've seen so far) had an overhead light pod without them. It had a rear dome light and two seat recliner switches, and nothing else.

It couldn't have been a mistake- the rear dome light was wider than usual, leaving no room for two "spot" lights.
