I finally figured out how to install the ANCO blades. I could not get them to go on with the adapter attached to the blade. I had to first slide the wiper blade on to the BMW hook on the car and then slide the adapter on behind it. I then snapped the adapter onto the hook first and then snapped the ANCO blade onto the adapter. Also, on the ANCO blade there is an empty hole that goes through the top of the blade next to where the adapter mounts. On the instructions, it shows that hole being behind where the adapter mounts. I could not get it to go on this way, so I turned the blade around, so now that empty hole is in front of the adapter. I think this is a key step.

Anyway, a big thanks to Digi, for finding out that ANCO does make a set of winter blades for the X5, even though the guys at AutoZone said they would not fit the BMW arm.
