They're there in my E53 but compared to my E39 and even past E34's they're not as useful. The rear map lights on my E53 are in the dome forward of the reader unlike other BMW's where the lights are over the readers shoulders on the pillar. They also have a clear lens that makes the light feel harsh and cheap. If you look on the dome where the buttons are for the rear power seats you'll see the two map lights for the rear seats.
