Calling "Imola Red M"... need 4x4 advice please + (archive)

Ive been reading your posts earlier about offroading w/your X5. Today Im hitting the dealer's to order one... However, there is one thing I still have not gotten a solid impression about: WHY do people think offroading capabilities with the X5 is insignificant ??? I mean, what's the whole purpose of a 4x4 anyway ? or is it about luxury vs offroading (compromise?)

What can a Land Rover do that an X5 can't ? Plz use some plain english coz if i'd sound really ignorant with those technical terms u used below :)

By the way, I chose the Pastel Green colour with Sandal/Beige interior at first, but then i finally insisted on Black Metallic with Beige interior (4.4). Altho some say its boring, & others say its hard to keep clean... im just fed UP with white and light colors ive had on my E38s !!!
Rims=19"- Y-style.

*Are there any mods I can do to my soon-to-come e53 in order to make it more "friendly" with offroads/snowy weather ?

I highly appreciate your comments on this, and I just hope one day I can do the same with any of you targeting an E65 or an E38 :)
