A few points regarding Scott C's LONG off road lecture.

1. I find it odd how a non X5 owner can comment so much on something he does not use on a daily basis

2. It seems he is trying to PLUG Land Rover which in my opinion is the WORST SUV on the planet.

Why ?

A. It guzzels GAS

B. Rovers break down alot and espically after 4 year 50,000. Most dealers encourage owners to trade in their Rovers because the cost of maintence is TOO high.

C. The sales were so poor the company had to bought out.

The LIST is WAY to long ,but I have had various friends who love their Rover ,but the bills stack up.

3. Who says the BMW X5 was MADE for off roading in the marsh lands or tropics of Africa.

The BMW SAV is a up scale Yuppie moblie which offers slighlty more cargo space than a 5 series or BMW wagon. Its strenths are its handling on pavement which I must say blow away Rover. The insurance institute gave the X5 their top pick. Hello DID I hear Rover ? NOT Also , its sytle and over options make it a unique alternative for those interested in an all wheel drive SAV or SUV which gives a rear wheel feel.

I think the X5 was targed for those not interested in getting stuck in the snow and its high level of safety for local driving.

It is a solid car which holds true to the BMW moto of ultimate driving machine.

It is not meant to be a Hummer , Durano , Chevy Like a Rock or any other EARTH moving machine.

While I might agree with some of Scotts comments , I feel they are misplaced and out of context considering the niche BMW has placed the X5 in during its past 3 model years.
