Is the Land Rover going to remain the offroad vehicle from this line, while the "Rangies" will be kept for city drivers only? If thats the case then why shell out cash for a Range Rover that will under perform an X5 4.4 (with the same engine of course). Range Rover posts a 9 sec 0-60 time.
A Land Rover and a Range Rover are one in the same. But as of Today. Land Rover donsn't sell a good off road vehicle in the USA. The new Rangie will not be an off road vehicle despite Land Rover marketing hype. Rover owners learned the limits of ETC in the Discovery. The vehicles are no longer field repairable. And This was the #1 reason to buy a Rover. It was never known for it's lack of problems so I agree. Why buy one. The last good Rover sold in the US was the 2001 Discovery II. After mid 2001 they put in a new Transfer case that got rid of the option to modify your rover to have a CDL. The Freelander is a joke off road but it will sell well. Everyone in the Rover comunity is awaiting the new Defender. If they keep the old formula in the new Defender due in 2003 or 2004 they will have a winner. If not then Land Rover will end a slow and painful death. And older Defenders will continue to sell for more than they were new. If you're in the EU or anywhere outside the US or Canada you can still get a great Defender 90 or 110 for off road use.
If BMW makes an X7 there will be NO reason to buy a new Rangie.
