Ordering "Special" options - East Meet (archive)

I had an interesting conversation at East Meet with representatives from Open Road BMW. We were talking about why certain options were not available on the 3.0i, such as rear heated seats, comfort seats, etc. Open Road told me that they regularly order these on 3.0's! They said that it usually extends production time by a few weeks, and that BMW charges more than the options normally go for, but that it can be done. They even mentioned special colors. He said that most dealers are just too lazy to go through the motions, but that they do it all the time. I guess I'll be ordering my next X5 from them!
