Very Noisy Brakes- No alternatives (long) (archive)

Posted about this recently with an update- had my brakes checked at the dealer and they said that pads were fine and the noise was natural when brakes heated up. They could not fix because they're within BMWNA specifications.

Called BMW NA and asked them if it's normal to have an X5 that always sounds like an old 18 wheeler whenever I stop.

BMWNA: No.

Me: So that is NOT how they are supposed to sound and not every X5 has this problem.

BMWNA: Correct.

Me: You fix defective parts correct?

BMWNA: Yes

Me: So, why can't my dealership fix/ replace these defective brakes without me having to pay?

BMWNA: Because the pad wear is within the BMWNA specs.

Me: But you just agreed with me that they are defective....and on and on it went.

So I ask everyone, how can thay rationalize that my 4.4i, with a high price we all know so well, is so noisy that I don't drive with my windows open! Does this seem ridiculous and wrong to anyone else?

Any thoughts on how I can get these things fixed by dealer without having to pay out of pocket for new brakes?
