Manual is manual. You can select 3rd gear and start off in 3rd if you want to. The engine will cut out at high RPM to protect itself, and it also won't downshift if it would cause over-reving. Other than that, You get what you select, and nothing more or nothing less.

To put it into the "sport" auto mode, just move the lever over, but do not shift. If you shift, the M light will also illuminate in addition ot the S light. This is total manual and you are in control. It will not shift except to protect itself.
