Just turn over 10,000 miles and added the second quart..

I had an oil consumption problem. Suddenly I was needing a quart every 4000 miles and I contacted BMW-USA and the dealer. They said it is o.k. (normal) to use a quart every 1000 miles (I don't know anyone who would say that is normal). While waiting for our appointment to have it checked as it worsened and was needing a quart every 1000 miles, something "blew" and the oil came running out of the engine. Apparantly the antifreeze and oil were mixing. The engine was replaced. I still don't have a diagnosis (?cracked head, ?head gasket) but apparantly BMW has seen this on some (How many?) x5's.
