Test drove both. Sports was to harsh for putting around town/commuting. Not worth the occasional joy-ride on the off/on-ramp.

You should definitly try and drive both in a realistic driving situation. Wife and I test drove the X5 on 3 separate occasions over about 4 months. First, performance testing with sales guy. Next, performance testing on our own. Lastly, just driving around in rush-hour traffic. Parking. Backing-up. U-turns. Real world kind of stuff. Learned a lot from each trip.
