Over the last five years I've leased a 7-series and 5-series - both great cars. Last month I ordered an X5 4.4i with basically every option but the sport package. To date, I haven't had any real problems with the bmws' I've leased. I've heard there have been pretty significant reliability problems with the X5. I'd be interested in what people's experience has been with this model. Thanks.I was pretty concerned about this before buying my 2002 X5. I have owned Lexus' in the past, and their reputation for quality is well-deserved. The bottom line is that the X5 did have above average problems in the first two years of production. The combination of a new plant and new vehicle were too much to handle. I now believe they have shaken it down pretty well, and have not had any problems with mine (other than the key memory issue). I don't think BMW or MB know how to build a car as reliably as Lexus, but they are doing a respectable job.
