I have a 15 month old X-5 (1991) with around 18,000 miles on the 3.0 engine. I am burning around 1 quart of synthetic oil every 3000 miles or so. The dealer says this is normal. I have 3 friends with bimmers who have never added a single drop of oil. Is it really normal to burn this much oil?

Just got our X5 back from its first Oil Service and had the same problem. Dealership said that according to BMW oil consumption is not a problem until the engine is burning 1 quart per 750 miles. That seems excessive.
