4.4 and 4.6 Problems? Bring me up to speed (archive)

Looked at the 4.4 several months ago and decided to buy a new 745Li when they get here in a few months. Now I'm thinking of going back to a 4.4 or maybe the 4.6 but I seem to remember that there where some problems with them. Can someone tell me what the problems were and if they have been adequately fixed?
