Saturday I went on a trip with the local BMW ACA club to Mt. St. Helens. There was over 30 car's there including 5 Z3's (1 M Roadster, 3 1.9's and one 2.8) and the most beautiful 850 I have seen in a few years.
We got rain twards the end of the trip (and EVERYONE got to see the Z3 "fire drill" on the side of the road...). The leader was driving a 1.9 and followed by me (an M3 waved me up there). We had a blast, with all of the other cars following closely up some of the best twisty Forest Service roads around (yes, they were ALL paved!).
Unfortunetly, at the top it was cold, rainy and blowing so the views of the mountan was not as good as we had hoped.
The trip home was "free form" and gave us a few adventures with a 635csi (yes, he did blow my doors off on the straight!) and an M3 (after 20 minutes of "dicing" they waved me by).
This is what good, well supported clubs do. Everyone had fun and NO ONE said a single bad thing about anyones car (most wanted to swap someone for something) or driving ability. In fact some people commented to me on how well their cars handled in the rain, they just did not belive that there cars were that good.
If your local chapter of BMW CCA is not up to speed, try to make a difference. Not all are made the same and I am lucky to have one localy that does promote fun with ALL BMW's.
