: Just got back to Burlington. The flight from Philadelphia was delayed 1.5 hours and USAirways sent my mother's walker to Indianapolis at a gate check - we were standing on the jetway, outside of the plane the Burlington, and this wasn't a big enough hint to convince the idiot there that we may want this item on the plane with us rather than send it 1,500 miles the wrong way. this was a fitting end for a trip with the following highlights:

: 1. Ran into the remains of hurricane Earl in the middle of rush hour in Carlotte. (9/3)
: 2. Some miscreant Z3 owner "doored" my car in the Marriott parking lot Thursday night. (9/3)
: 3. My mother fell and broke her hip Saturday night. (9/5)
: 4. I hit a deer while heading back to Burlington on the Blue Ridge Parkway Wednesday (9/16).
: 5. USAirways turns an 1100 mile flight into a 9 hour extravaganza. While sending an walker that my mother purchased spent the last two weeks learning how to use to the never-never land of lost luggage.
: After explaining in graphic detail to the dolt working the gate just what total immobilty meant to someone, I got her to call the local hospital to obtain a walker rather tna wait for Mom's to arrive somewhere around "noon tomorrrow".
: As for my car, it is at Valley Cadillac/Oldsmobile/BMW in Roanoke, VA. They will have to replace the hood, windshield and $1,000 more miscellaneous items to make it new again. I can see nothing other than superficial damage requiring body panel replacement. The deer must have been in the air, moving from left-to-right when it hit. I have one small dent in the hood in front of the wheel arch (the wheel arch itself is buckled slightly). The body of the deer hit just right-of-center below the windshield header at about 40 MPH. Although cracked, the windshield remained in the car, and I could find no distortion in the windshield frame. The top goes up and latches normally! In fact, I drove the car about 40 miles from the scene of the accident into the dealer in Roanoke. This is one tough car to take a hit like this in what should be a relatively weak area. Yes, I did just get through installing deer whistles -- they don't work.

: Thanks also to BMW's Roadside assistance. I located what I thought would be the nearest dealer then called the 800 number. BMW confirmed that Roanoke was the nearest dealer and put me in conact with their service department immediately.

: Now for the Bambi-huggers - (1) I sincerely hope the deer died, and (2) I am strongly considering taking up hunting.

Having met you and your Mom in front of the Hotel on Friday morning, the possibility of rain
now seems quite moot! In spite of all of the adverse events, (from Carlisle to the hotel and thereafter), it was a pleasure meeting you both and hope that all bad luck is behind you! Finally, may the person that gave you the door ding enjoy just a little guilt and a whole lot of the same treatment whenever he/she parks their Zee.
