I have done only sections of these three routes. Basically I was looking to get from the Bay Area to Tahoe without doing Highway 80 and miminize Highway 50. I would guess that 18 wheelers would be mostly on Highway 80 then 50. Fanny Bridge is the dam at Tahoe City that is the origin of the Truckee River. Visitors stop and look over the edge (thus "Fanny") as they walk across the 30-50 foot long path. Highway 49 is the most historic (why would you think that it is called "49").
Start near Benica
Trip"A" = 4 - 88 - 49 - 20 - 80 - 89 : Many towns slower
Trip"B" = 4 - 49 - 50 - 89 : Maybe more crowded than A
Trip"C" = 4 - 88 - 89 : Faster fewer towns
end at "Fanny Bridge" in Tahoe City.
A is the longest about 260 miles one-way
B = 255
C = 217
The return could be 165 miles down 80. The parade could have a late lunch - early dinner then maybe split into groups that stays Sat night and those who would return home.
This would be my first ride. I was putting a down payment on my Z3 as you folks collected for the start of BAD III.
I just saw another option.
Plan D = 4 - 99 - 120 - 49 - Grass Valley (no Tahoe, but a lot of 49)
I would choose the weekend of October 17th.
