I haven't bothered to look at the rear woofer configuration in my M, but if they are really push-pull (sealed chamber between them) they are in what is called an "isobaric" configuration.
The advantage to an Isobaric configuration is not that it "simulates" or is "equivalent" to a larger driver, but that it allows the use of an enclosure of 1/2 the size required by a normal single speaker configuration. It reduces the efective value of a speaker parameter called "Vas" by 1/2.
