Does anyone know if the side airbags can be retrofitted into a '98 M that doesn't have them?

Lawyer slime has crawled all over the US airbag industry and left a thick coat of RedTape gunk over everything. This has led to tremdous debate over adding something as simple as an on-off switch in a car that already has all the wiring to accept such a switch (simply plugs in - see above picture).

Given that the lawyers are urging dealerships against even plugging in a on-off switch (and assuming responsibility), I seriously doubt a dealership would even consider installing side impact airbags (unless they were somehow released from responsibility).

It's a great idea and something they should offer, but you can thank the lawyers from keeping this device away from you. I'm not even sure if BMW allows customers to order airbags from the parts department.

Fact: It takes longer to get the government to give you permission to install an airbag on-off switch than it does for the government to give you permission to buy a semi-automatic assalt rifle.
