Today was the day to upgrade my 1998 Z3M stero system. From the start I felt it lacked a mid range punch I would expect from a high end car. My task (thanks to DC on this board)was to replace the 5 1/4 speakers in the kick panels as the first step with possible replacement of the 3" mids in the rear. I decided to take the front ones on first.
My Choices: 1. Boston Cx5's $72 2. Boston rx57's $110 and 3. Boston Pro's $420 The CX5's didnt look like much more than I already had in a factory speaker so I passed, The Pro's were awsome, but coupled to my factory amp, I felt a total waste of money as I didnt have the power to really compliment the design. I bought a pair of RX57's and after a 40 min easy installation (perfect fit) of changing the crip connectors out with the supplied ones, the system sounds great. A wake up call to my sub too, as I could swear my lows are more defined and clear. But the best part is that the MID punch, the MID fill, that was lacking before is present and makes a big difference. Therefore I am not sure now if I even need to change out the rear mids. Just thought I would share as I have picked up some good tips here on this board.
