Did you have any leakage problems in the rain on the way back from homecoming ?
The Other Tom
98 2.8L dark green/black/beige

: On my way back from the '98 Homecoming, and just outside of Atlanta, I ran over a muffler (and possibly a whole cat back...anyone missing one).

: It put a nice scrape (down to plastic) on the spoiler and cracked the foglight.

: Entry Wound

: And broke one of the bumper mounting and cracked the bumper around it.

: Broken Mount

: I Called my insurance and they easily filed a claim (it was filed under collision with a $750 deductible rather than comp which I have a $500 deductible...damn!) and gave me a number of shops that are approved to do the work. I could have taken it anywhere...but it would have just increased the paper work and time to repair it. Most of the shops they gave me were Ford and Chevy dealers :^ž.

: However one shop they did mention was a shop that I pass to and from work…AJ-USA. Passing it everyday, I usually take a look as I pass because of the larger number of Porsches (some race versions), a few Lamborghini, and occasional Viper, some upper scale MBs and BMWs, etc. So, I figured that maybe just the place to take Dieter Z to fix his ills.

: The adjuster took a couple walks around the car (mentioning that he recognized the car from it driving by everyday)…looked underneath…and then took pics of the bumper and wheels. I asked him about the wheels. He said that apparently the muffler had bent both right side wheels (for those of you in the know…I just didn't feel the need to correcting him). He also (in just a couple walks around the car) had taken note of not only every paint chip…but a couple spots of tar that I hadn't noticed

: After inspecting the car (and mentioning that he has another car just like Dieter Z in the back) he went to his computer and worked up a quote.

: Repair and refinish the front bumper
: Replace the foglight
: Replace both wheels
: Wheel alignment all around
: $1452.70

: The estimate doesn't include anything they find once they get inside the bumper (I don't think they'll find much there), or inspect the undercarriage.

: I really don't think they are going to be able to repair the bumper assembly because of the broken mount on the bottom.

: So Dieter Z goes under the knife next Monday for three days. Then he goes to the dealer for oil change, new top, new brake boot, new rear shock mounts, and anything else they find along the way.
