: It was a brisk Sunday morning and the track was icy on arrival. While the conditions increased the anxiety for others, Greg Hudson was 'chaffing at the bit' to get out there... I lined up at the back of the grid with 'THAT Z3'. Having previously experienced Greg and his M3 eating 1.9 litre unmodified Z3... I was a little apprehensive.
: For the next 30 mins I lapped Winton with a Red Z3 in my mirror. My lines were shocking, and I struggled to get the M3 and myself into a rhythm. At the height of my confusion 'THAT Z3' was in the mirror flashing its lights. Adding insult to injury - the flag marshall (with a big grin on his face) showed me a 'blue flag' indicating a FASTER CAR was behind !!! A quick look in my mirror just to be sure - yep that ^%$^$ Z3. What a joke.

: Geoff & I had a absolute ball that day... For safety reasons we were not allowed to pass on corners - which meant of course that I couldn't just duck in under brakes and steal the corner from Geoff. Naturally with 236Kw under his right foot he could blast away from me on the straights, but once we hit the twisty stuff again, I was right up his rear bumper... He probably couldn't hear it, but not only was I flashing lights at him to move over, but blasting him with the horn as well... Boy it was fun!!! :-)
: You might wonder how a 'lowly' 1.9 Z3 could keep up to an M3 lap after lap? The answer is WEIGHT. Geoff has an extra 300Kg to slow down and heave thru the corners. Me, with the light weight Z3 could brake much later, and with less weight, throw by baby thru the corners much faster, giving me a higher corner exit speed, and keeping my momentum up. (Most important with a 'low' powered engine. So, next time you get out on a track, keep this in mind - you'll be surprised how well a 1.9 can 'go' !!!
