: My 1999 black/dark gray/black roadster arrived while I was on the west coast on business, so of course, I took the red eye home ( I live in Conn.). Arriving tired, but unbelieveably excited at the dealership, I picked up the most amazing car I have ever seen. God, who must love roadsters and their drivers, has provided me with clear, crisp early autumn weather since I took posession of the car (including an early morning rain to dampen the road dust from clinging to my car). After 5 days of continuous driving, except when I must sleep or see my wife glaring at me from the picture window as I drive by, I have the following comments.
: Dislikes (and they are few):
: 1) According to a service bulletin, the voltmeter will not be installed until spring, albeit, for free.
: 2) There will not be a M mobility kit, ever. Instead, the roadside assistance program will be extended for the life of the car. I am not sure how reliable that service will be where there is limited cellular coverage, but hopefully, I will not find out. It does make a convincing argument for replacement 'run flat' tires.
: Likes (just the highlights, as the list is long):
: 1) The sound of the engine and the exhaust. BMW tuned it perfectly for a low growl; noticeable, but not obnoxious.
: 2) The seats. I could, and have, driven for days without any fatigue.
: 3) Handling. Even with the traction control on, the car is a thrilling experience to drive. I never brake for turns any more, I just power steer through them. My constant grin is working facial muscles heretofore relegated to family photo ops.
: 4) Power, power, power... The 'car-leaping' torque from low range to the effortless power at the high end makes entry onto the Merrit Parkway and passing a no brainer exercise.
: Now that I have given all of the obligitory drives (friends, relatives), this weekend, my wife and I are heading out to the north, following the coast, in what will be a memorable drive.
: Hope to see some of my fellow roadster drivers out there.
