: Shit what a day!!!! Bob had always said not to let my boys (17 & 19) drive my car. Teenage boys and sports cars = trouble. Did I listen, yeah for a while but last Sunday while Bob was in the office the 17 year old asked if he could just drive the Z to his friends house and right back. Wonderful mom that I am I said yes . . . BUT BE CAREFUL!!!! He returned the car to the garage a little later on and I didn't drive it till today. I'm getting out of the car at work this morning and notice that the boot is all scratched and dirty in spots. It was clear what had happened.
: I called the school and had my son taken to the phone and yes it came off while he was driving it. I never explained that you should visually check it. The two center back buttons are never hooked because of the wind screen and once in a while the side ones do come loose but . . .
: He should have fessed up. He tried to clean it up and put armoral on it but it is damaged. My heart is broken, more out of his lack of respect for me and our relationship.
I have to ask... Even if the boot snaps were loose, wouldn't it take a fairly high speed to pop it off? If he was just "going to a friend's house", I wouldn't expect this type of speed unless his friend lives a ways away via a highway.
I've driven >80mph for an extended period of time with one of the side snaps not fastened (and neither of the middle ones, either). The boot was rock solid.
Sorry to hear about the problem, but it sounds like there could be a bit more to this story...
