: Shit what a day!!!! Bob had always said not to let my boys (17 & 19) drive my car. Teenage boys and sports cars = trouble. Did I listen, yeah for a while but last Sunday while Bob was in the office the 17 year old asked if he could just drive the Z to his friends house and right back. Wonderful mom that I am I said yes . . . BUT BE CAREFUL!!!! He returned the car to the garage a little later on and I didn't drive it till today. I'm getting out of the car at work this morning and notice that the boot is all scratched and dirty in spots. It was clear what had happened.
: I called the school and had my son taken to the phone and yes it came off while he was driving it. I never explained that you should visually check it. The two center back buttons are never hooked because of the wind screen and once in a while the side ones do come loose but . . .
: He should have fessed up. He tried to clean it up and put armoral on it but it is damaged. My heart is broken, more out of his lack of respect for me and our relationship.
: Replacement with overnight mailing is $445.00!!! I can't let Bob find out or I'm afraid it will forever cause problems (anyone with step-children will understand). It has taken Bob years to finally warm up to this kid and I hate to destroy that.
: Any advise?
If the boot flew off the car cause the snaps were not working correct, it is BMW's fault. Go to your dealer and show them the boot. Tell them what happened, and since the snaps didn't work to keep them down, have them replace the boot under warranty.
