Hy guys,

: I had a problem with my 96er Z3 1.9. The exhaust-system between Kat and motor broke in a welding seam completely in 2 parts. It must be a construction failure because BMW know the problem and now they install little parts at the exhaust-system to reduce the vibrations. BMW want to change my complete exhaust-system and I had to pay for that, so I decide to renew the welding seam. Is there someone who had the same problem or who knows something about that?

: Best regards

: Thorsten

Here in the US there was a service bulletin that installed something (vibration dampner?) on the exhaust (SIB was for '96 model Z3s). I remember reading that the reason for this device was to stop what you are describing. Email me a reminder note and I'll try and find the service bulletin number (if you think that will help you get the repairs done for free).

Where is the damage? before or after the catalitic converter? If it is after it I'm sure there are several 1.9 owners with aftermarket exhausts that would love to get rid of the stock 1.9 Z3 exhaust (I know I would, it's still in the corner of my garage but I live in the US).
