: : Maybe I should have taken into account that it was the first rain in several months, causing it to be very slick, but by this time the road for the most part was dry.

:
: Remember that the rain will "lift" gasoline, oil, antifreeze, etc. that has worked into the texture of the road surface and redeposit it across the contact surface leaving things quite slick even after the water dries. A light rain is the worst as it will be enough to surface the contaminants, but not enough to wash them away.

That is the exact situation that this was, infact I walk up the Highway and could see the rainbow type colors in the water that was on the highway.
I stepped in it and could feel that is was slick.
Waiting for a tow give you time to check such things out.

: : Leon had said that some may be due to the tires being less than a week old, I would like others input on that.

:
: New tires are coated with a "sealant" designed to protect them from UV light and ozone. This sealant soaks into the tread surface of the tire and can cause reduced traction until that thin layer of rubber has worn off. My motorcycle experience taught me to always get at least 500 miles on new tires before pushing them too hard.

I was well under 500 miles, my guess would be about 250 maybe 300 miles, just bought them last sunday, now ones shot all ready, now there is a short tire life.

: I'm glad to hear you both escaped injury. I hope your Z3 has a speedy and complete recovery.

Thanks
