Help! Body shop refuses to install hitch/rack! (archive)

Hi! I've ordered & received my hitch from Da-Lan (hitch-world.com) specifically for the Z3, and a bike rack from Bauer to go with. The body shop currently working on smoooothing a few minor scratches (which does do welding BTW) absolutely refuses to put the hitch on the back of the car. Said it would interfere with the spare tire assembly. The local bike shop said they'd take a look and thought it could be done, but I can't find a shop (called 3) that have actually put a lil trailer hitch on a Z3 yet. The only option offered was to drill holes (OUCH NO WAY) on the trunk lid & mount something similar to the luggage rack. The dealer won't do the trailer hitch either NOR offer a solution to the bike rack question.
So how does one install a trailer hitch?
Or how do any bicycle rider Z3 owners transport their fat-tires around??
