check your top to see if it is cutting the rubber seal at the front of the windshield. my top behaves exactly as you are describing. apparently, so did bruce's. bruce told me that the drivers-side pin of his top had been cutting his rubber seal at the front of the windshield. i didn't think that was happening with mine, but i had never really looked. i went out to the car the next day and popped the top, and sure enough, my rubber seal is getting munched by the drivers-side pin every time i close the top. there's a pretty decent tear in it now.

i'm going to ask that the seal be replaced the next time i take my car in for service (and also i'm going to stipulate that no wooden blocks be used to bend my top).
