based on this info, we both have the correct weight of oil in our Z3s. The Mobil 1 and Redline synthetics must be of a slightly different formulation. It is clear from your info however that if you go with Redline the 10W30 would be the correct choice for cars that operate in winter, and 10W40 for us in the hot south. A new BMW engine certainly doesn't have "large clearances" as stated for the 15W50. A couple questions for those of you with oil temp gauges:
1. What is the oil temp of our 6 cylinders when up to operating temps?
2. How much longer does it take to reach normal oil temp after the water temp is up to normal? (I want to know this because you're really not suppose to "get on it" until after the oil temp is up to normal.) Thanks!
