Sep 98 sales figures just published by BMW NA show that Z3 1.9 model sales for Sep 98 are up a very surprising 22.3% from Sep 97 while YTD sales for the 1.9 are down 22% from 1997. This result suggests that there were more of the 1.9 models on hand at dealers than I expected. For the Z3 2.8 model the Sep 98 sales are down some 31% from Sep 97 while the YTD 2.8 sales are dead even with the same 9 month period in 1997. Total BMW roadster sales for the Month of September 98 are up 35% over September 97 while total BMW roadster sales for the nine month period in 1998 are up a strong 9.1% from the corresponding period in 1997. It is interesting to me to note that new models not available last year account for almost 32% of Sep 98ís sales.

Exact figures published by BMW NA are as follows:

SEP 98 YTD 98 SEP 97 YTD 97
Z3 1.9 663 5,908 542 7,557
Z3 2.3 195 195 0 0
Z3 2.8 510 7,142 735 7,140
Z3 2.8 Coupe 4 4 0 0
M Roadster 214 2,489 0 0
M Coupe 137 301 0 0
TOTALS 1,723 16,039 1,277 14,697

Does anyone out there want to guess when the last 1.9 model will be sold?

Also, BMW of North America did not choose to make any comment in their press release about having sold the 50,000 U.S. model Z3. Is my arithmetic faulty, or did they forget?
