: Respectfully, I see several deficiencies with this "message" & your subsequent "Perhaps we can agree on this...(more)" post.
: Instead of a critique, I would like to proffer an analogy that better articulates the current dynamics of this forum; a flashback, if you will:
: The Message Board is not really Alan's living room, it's the cyber equivalent of his football.
: I'm sure most of us have had a similiar situation from our childhoods where, unless a certain neighborhood kid got to play quarteback, he'd take his football and go home. Tell me, what did the other kids in your neighborhood think about that? Probably, the same as what they did in mine.
: Please don't misunderstand me! I think Alan is a fine QB; and, he's got a good game going on here. Nonetheless, if it's truly a team sport, then, the others should be afforded the opportunity to question some of the play-calling.
: Again, I enjoy the effort that Alan has made. It's just that I'm not comfortable with some of the self-serving, self-anointed hangers-ons.
: Getting back to years gone by, recall what happened when the QB decided to stay. (He wanted to play too!) Then, predictably, during the choosing of sides, some of the others (you can always tell who), would brown-nose the QB so they could be the next best thing, either ball-carrier or receiver.
: A valuable lesson: Don't pick friends, pick the best player available. Otherwise, the game deteriorates.
: It would appear that some of members here, collectively: "Gaggle", have an agenda to prevent others from touching the ball.
: So, for the good of the game, let's see to it that no one is wrongfully excluded via double standards and/or hypocrisies.
: : The United States of America is a wonderful country. It's a land of opportunity and a place of freedom where all individuals have certain inalienable rights.
: : However, this Message Board is not the USA.
: : Please allow me to explain...
: : I see many posts where people go on and on about "free speech" like it is actually free. Many people died to get this country to the point where it is today and to protect our way of life. There is nothing "free" about "free speech".
: : Nor does free speech apply here. Imagine this...
: : You invite me into your home. We are sitting in your living room having a nice chat about the weather and your new car. All of a sudden, I say the following 3 sentences...
: : 1. Your wife is fat and she smells nasty.
: : 2. Your daughter is the town tramp.
: : 3. Your 1.9 Z3 is a joke.
: : How long do you think I'm still going to be sitting on that couch in your living room? What about my right to freedom of speech? What do you mean it doesn't apply in your house because you pay the bills here?
: : The same thing applies here, on this message board. Alan pays the bills and makes the rules. This is the cyber equivalent of his living room and we have an obligation to behave ourselves. You can't go into a crowded movie theater and scream "Fire!!" and you can't start trouble here either.
: : Now be nice to each other or you will be sent to your rooms without supper
