I just removed my glovebox and have been driving around without it and all I can say is wow. I mean wow! This is the way the car should be. It even handles better without the glovebox noise. Now how to fix it right. A lot of the noise is coming from the latch and some is coming from a cheap plastic shell and then probably more from the box mounting to the car. The shell is poorly heat tacked to the back of the glovebox. It's the piece that if you stick your hand in the box and knock on the roof makes a lot of noise. The thing is so cheap I can't think of a product that uses this kind of plastic except packing material for electronics or a Hostess Cup Cake twin pack. So, I guess I'll glue the shell to the box solidly. Add some insulation to the back of it. Put some felt around where the box mounts with the car and add more foam on the sides of the opening so the latch closes tight (Thanks for the on-line suggestion for this one). Oh, I figured out why the door is so heavy. It's where the passenger's knees hit in a crash.
I hope BMW is reading this and is embarrassed, but more than likely they are happy that someone saved them about $30K in re-engineering their glovebox and also came up with a retro fit for the field.
