BMW Refused To Pay for Part Missing From My Car (archive)

A while back I had asked if other Z3 Coupe 2.8 owners had the chrome "Coupe" logo door side board like I used to have on my roadster (except it obviously said "roadster").

Well, to my dismay the response was that others had this on theirs. My car has a plain black door side board (doesn't look bad, just not as cool as the "coupe" logo). This last week, I asked my service advisor about this, and said that I expect it should be provided as it is supposed to equipment on the car.

He talked with the BMW NA rep, and the rep denied it saying that equipment on cars can change. I'm thinking my car might have been an early production run or something before they printed out the door pieces.

Well they are only $60 each, and my service advisor says he will not charge me for labor, but what do you think? Are there are any other Z3 Coupe 2.8 owners that just got the black side boards? I guess it's no big deal, but it seems BMW should provide these to me free of charge.
