I haven't yet heard anything other than rumors that the redline is down from 9000 to 8300. This may be only the inevitable rumor, as conventional "wisdom" never allows the possibility of doing something no one else does. If the rumor is true, even 8300 rpm is 1500-2000 rpms more than the Z3.
I'm not sure what the point is re production numbers. Considering that there will shortly be 5 small roadsters in the $35-45K market, I'm not sure limited availability will be a problem. Seems like the Japanese have always been pretty good at increasing production to meet demand.
Seems to me Honda is going after a smaller group of buyers who understand that bigger is not always better, and are willing to forgo the fancy nameplates in favor of a truly racy driving experience. Maybe I'm underestimating the strength of Honda's following, but I doubt the S2000 will be any harder to lay hands on than any of its competitors were upon introduction.
