I also have a 1.9 and enjoy it immensely. I have also thought about the supercharger or turbo but it may not be worth the expense. My neighbor builds race cars. He and I have talked this over and he agrees with some things that I have heard about these upgrades. Generally engines that come from the factory with turbo or SC are engineered for this. Engines with added on turbos or SC are not. Certain parts of the engine may not be designed for this extra power boost. The neighbor has known of people who have added turbos or SC and blown bearings and other parts in the engine cause it couldn't handle the strain. He agrees that upgrades such as K&N filter, free flow mufflers and performance chip enhance the car better for the money spent and you don't have to worry about blowing an engine. With the above you can probably expect a 15-20 hp difference which is a 10-12% increase in power. And it can be done for under $600.

: I currently have a 96 1.9L Z3 that I have loved since the day I bought it. Recently, I have been wanting more power and was about to make the jump to the M Roadster. Now, after reading the board I wonder whether the power I am looking for might easily be found in a supercharger. In the humble opinion of the board which is the better way to go??
