Black is gorgeous, especially on a really curvy car like the Z3.

But it is impossible to keep clean. My last car was black, and I swore never again.

But it was just too tempting. So I religiously hand-wash the thing every week, and I just deal with the fact that it never looks as good as it does the six seconds after I finish with the chamois.

One tip -- black shows scratches just as well as it shows dirt. Unfortunately, BMW's enviro-paint is extraordinarily soft, compounding the problem. So ALWAYS be sure to use meticulously clean wash mits. Personally, I'd be extremely careful about who I let wash it, too. Many so-called hand-wash places are significantly less than careful and are very likely to grind the dirt they've just removed from somebody's beater Buick into your beautiful Bimmer's paint.

Good luck!
