: I have purchased, in my life, a new 1983 BMW 320i, new 1986 325i, new 1995 325ic and, most recently, a new 99 Z3 2.3. I have also owned a used 1980 911SC, 1983 911SC, 1988 Carrera and, most recently, a 1995 993 coupe (sold it in November). I can afford and enjoy BMWs, and I can afford and enjoy Porsches too. I have joined both BMWCCA and the Porsche Club of America. I have subscribed to BMW newsgroups and BMW listservs, and Porsche newsgroups and Porsche listservs. Never on a Porsche group have I encountered anyone who bashes BMWs, yet everywhere BMW owners hang out on the net, there are frequent trashings of Porsches. Why? Can't you appreciate other fine German cars without feeling the need to prove somehow that BMWs are superior to Porsches? Let me tell you ... they're not ... both are fine cars in their own right, and, to be perfectly honest, I've been treated much better by Porsche than BMW when it comes to customer service and problems with dealers. What gives? Why bash the Boxster if you prefer the Z3? Why trash the 911 if you think the M3 is a better car? Why not just respect both marques, and enjoy it when they compete on the track? Either BMW owners are very insecure when it comes to Porsches, or I'm really missing something here.
The board "host" changed the nmae of this board to the "Boxter" board this morning (as a joke), and that set things off...I'd say we're fans of most any German car, and lots of others too - Welcome...
