: I enjoyed reading this posting. It brings up some very interesting points concerning vanity plates.

: However, I do not feel that a parallel can be drawn between vanity plates and this board. Perhaps a parallel between emissions and this board could be drawn though.

: If a particular vanity plate had the effect of causing people to brawl in the streets, I believe that vanity plate would be revoked. The cyber equivalent of what some postings here provoke is brawling in the streets.

: I'll say again...I delete spam/pyramid scheme postings if I see them (I do not read every post, so sorry if I miss some). I delete obvious flame bait ("BMW owners are @holes, blah blah blah"). I delete entire threads that have gotten out of hand. I do this without regard to whether I personally know any of the people involved in the thread or not. If a thread has degraded to a bandwidth-wasting argument going nowhere, I'm going to relegate it to the archives. This is similar to the UUC Digest monitor (for those of you familiar with that BMW mailing list) stepping and saying "such and such a thread is now closed".

: I do not censor opinions with which I disagree.

: I hate deleting messages. I use an old HP Unix machine here at work that is about the speed of a 486. It has a nice monitor though, which is why I use it for browsing. The script that allows me to delete a single post or thread comes up with each post number, author, time, and subject in a table--each of those things for each post gets a separate cell. If you could see how long my browser freezes when it works away at building that table, you would know that I only delete postings when I feel it is a dire necessity to try to keep some semblance of Z3-related discussion going on the board.

: Will I admit to being "the cyber equivalent of an DMV bureaucrat"? No. I'll admit to being the cyber equivalent of a principal, who sometimes must suspend students in the hopes of letting tempers die down, and who rarely, even though he very much dislikes it, sometimes must expel students for the greater good.
