: My 97 1.9 has a strange clutch shudder, most notably in wet conditions. When it rains,my husband drives the car to work so he noticed it first.I drive the car less often but I noticed it right off after not having driven it for a while. It was almost like I was dumping the clutch, but I didn't. Took the car in to have it checked and Prestige BMW in Santa Rosa, CA, where we purchased the car, said they wouldn't check it out, not a warranty problem. So what might be causing the uneven feel when letting off on the clutch? Of course, the service people wouldn't fix the window or seatbelt problem either, so maybe it is a service problem....or MAYBE the problems are all just in our heads ( as the service manager seems to want us to believe ).

From what I understand this is due to a leaking rear main seal. My '94 325i does it RARELY, and of course never at the dealer.

I complained several times, it always came back NO PROBLEM FOUND. In other words, learn to drive a stick mister. If yours does it repeatably have the service manager drive with you in the car. I've been told it's about $700 to fix.
