In Reply to: Chrome Door Surrounds - help!.... posted by Bill on April 02, 1999 at 17:04:05:

Its easy. Get a hair dryer and heat the plug up. Take a small screwdriver like for eyeglass screw repair and start to pry out the inner plug. There is a little slot on each side to insert the screwdriver. Once you have lifted it a bit, take your nail or another screw driver and pull it out. You only need to take out the inner plug.

Take a flashlight and shine into the hole. You will see a small silver cuplike thing near where the lock is. Push this forward(towards the front of the car). Very little pressure is needed. Use a screwdriver. It will move about 1.2 inch. Open and close the door handle several times to loosen the door surround. Then pry off gently with your finger nail. DO NOT USE A TOOL FOR THIS OR YOU MIGHT SCRATCH THE PAINT!!!!!!!!! Pull the surround out and down and remove from car. Swap gaskets. One of the new gaskets fit fine but the other was loose. Why do the work twice. Hook in the new surround and gently work in the top part. Find some kind of hook tool. Have someone hold in the surround, hook the little cup and pull back. Not much force is needed. That's it. Put the plug back in. Enjoy.
