: : On Saturday, we picked up our 1999 2.8 triple black, auto
: : trans (wife's requirement), 17 inch wheels, premium package, chrome, cd. We got a great lease deal on the car
: : as it seems the dealers really want to move out the 1999s.
: : Anyway, we love the car, but have the following questions.
: : 1. On the way home, I noticed the car does not have a
: : center armrest. In the BMW brochure, it clearly shows one.
: : Is this an option that I forgot, or did the dealer forget to install it? Surprisingly, the car did come with floormats.
: I got the oval cupholders in my '99 2.8. Don't miss an armrest at all.
: 2. We need a windscreen. I know there are several to choose from, but which is best? Is there a part #? How much? Best place to purchase it?
: Ordered my roll hoop version last week from Quality Imports, about $100. I also ordered the trunk organizer that is shown on the MZ#.net. I think it will be a good place for the owners manual.
: 3. The driver side lever for the convertible top takes a lot of effort to open and close, in fact my wife can not do it. Is there an adjustment?
: It's a little stiff, but not a big problem. I think you need a little tension to strech the top so it looks tight.
: 4. The BMW "business cd radio" is poor. Any reasonably priced improvements, not looking for a concert hall, just decent sound.
I have gotten used to the radio and after a while I think you probably will too. I would wait before acting in this case.
: 5. In the 100 miles I put on the car, there is a lot of brake dust on the wheels, any products to deal with this?.
Brake dust is a problem you will have to deal with.
: 6. the seat belt really is really tight on the shoulder, is this normal. Sorry for all of the questions, we really like the car. Our last sports car before this was
: : a 1982 corvette. What a difference. Thanks
The seat belt design is crappy. You will find the drivers side gets "hung" up. You will also find ways to deal with this too.
I also added a Clifford IQ-800 alarm/keyless entry system which I am extremely happy with $535 installed). I bought a hardtop which is great and Weather Tech rubber mats for winter ops. Oh, also snows and alloys for winter too. I live in CT so they were a must.
