Good call on the "stuff" applied to the tires at the dealer. Here's the deal. First of all, there will always be brake dust, period. This is more noticeable because you have a very "open" 5 spoke wheel, and the brake dust isn't kept on the inside of the wheel as much as with wheel covers (hub caps) or with most of the old corvette wheels (a good comparison since you used to have one). Second, when the dealer sprays the shiny stuff on the tires, it's most probably a conventional foam, and it gets all over the wheel, and if they aren't careful on the fenders in front of and behind the tires. This stuff is very tacky and attracts brake dust like fly paper. I have found that the key to applying this shiny spray is to wipe the wheels and fenders with a rag (a t-shirt will do) to get the spray off before it drys. If you don't you could get some brake dust that NEVER comes off. I have some stuck in the crevasses of my wheels thanks to the dealers laziness. Any suggestions out there for a potent solvent to get this off would be appreciated. Good luck and have fun. Oh, one other thing I learned that makes the auto trans more fun is that if you put it in 3rd instead of Drive, it is more sporty, it will shift at higher rpms and therefore be more responsive. But it's hell on gas mileage so be sure to pop it into drive when you get to speed otherwise it won't get into that 4th gear. (I picked this up from the E36 board, and it works)
