Many years ago I had tears worse than that fixed on my Triumph Spitfire's top. Of course on close inspection you could tell it was patched, but in those days I didn't have much choice until I had enough spare cash for a new top (entire thing was only about $250 back then btw). IF you can live with it not looking absolutely perfect (IME if you park outside it's not going to for very long anyway) then take it to somebody else, even an upholsterer who repairs furniture --they deal with cigarette burns all the time. That top specialist was perhaps just trying to get you to spend a lot of money because it's a BMW.
: I went to the dealer accessories (a cheasy guy who knows nothing, cause there are no more than around 50 z3 in my whole country), he sent me to a specialist that fixes convertibles.
: So the specialist looked at it and said it's burnt, thus it is a cigarette burn,
: it's true the tissu is dried out on an ellipse of around 2 centimeters square around the tear. He claims it can't be stiched and can't be sticked together due to the deteriorated tissu. the solution? he'll replace the top square tissu by a custom one he does for $400!!!!! I'LL BE DAMNED!!!!
: any toughts on what to do to fix a cigarette burn??
: how can a cigarette burn be lethal for a BMW top? I would pay the money and replace the top, but I'm not gonna allow any specialist make the replacement part with his hands!!! can we buy these things original???
: thanx for all
: your experience is much appreciated
