The 193 BHP figure for the 2.8 was determined by the fact that German insurers but a break point here for ratings and hence cost of insurance. Above this and you used to pay a lot(!) more per annum. That's why the VW VR6 produces 190BHP and the Mercedes 230 Kompressor produces 193 BHP.

I don't know if this break point is still in place, perhaps our German friends can enlighten us.
