There are documented break-in procedures in the owner's manual. Since you don't have one yet, here is a brief description.

Break-in period is 1200 miles
Avoid full throttle
Avoid lugging the engine (RPM too low)
Keep RPM below 4500 RPM
Avoid constant speed
I vaguely remember something about top speed as well but don't remember what it was.

What you should do for your trip is stay off the interstates and take secondary roads. Get a good map that has special markings for 'scenic routes'. This will make the trip take twice as long but it will allow you break in the car properly. There is a lot of scenery along the way, take along a camera and enjoy the drive.

When you arrive in MN, the car will be properly broken in and ready for some real fun.
